Finally, the air is getting cooler, there is a scent of sweet spice hanging in the breeze, and a crisp crunch under foot. Fall is here!
Here in New England, this also means that it is time for the Great Pumpkin onslaught. Pumpkin spice takes over everything, to the happiness of some (me!) and the misery of others. But why limit the goodness of pumpkin to pie, soup, cookies and lattes - we can make this super food work on the outside of our bodies too!
Pumpkin, the Skincare Powerhouse!
Pumpkin is packed with antioxidants including Vitamins A and C and zinc which help soften and soothe skin, and boost collagen production to prevent the signs of aging.
Raw pumpkin seeds are even more jammed packed with vital minerals and antioxidants including; magnesium, copper, iron, Vitamins A, E, K, and B, potassium, zinc, and selenium. All of which are powerhouse skincare ingredients in the fight against acne and aging, plus they help brighten and soften skin too.
Of course eating pumpkin flesh and seeds help deliver these nutrients to our bodies, so throw some raw seeds onto your next salad and fire up the slow cooker for pumpkin soup but make sure to save some pumpkin to create your own super charged beauty treatments including the two recipes below.
Pumpkin & Honey Mask
Using ingredients readily available in the fall kitchen, you can easily create a super-powered mixture that can be used on your face or hair (or anywhere else on your body for that matter!).
This is a little messy so you might want to pull your hair off your face.
Wash face with a gentle soap and pat dry.
Using finger tips or the back of a spoon to apply the mixture over your face (being careful to avoid the eye area).
Leave for 15 minutes and rinse with warm water.
Wash Hair with a gentle shampoo and then smooth mixture onto your hair.
Put a shower cap on, leave for 15 minutes, then rinse off.
Use on Both!

Body - Replace the cider vinegar with 2-4 tbs of brown sugar and you have yourself a body scrub.
Pumpkin Seed and Rose Water Face Mask
This mask is full of anti-aging, and skin brightening ingredients, it will leave your skin feeling smooth and glowing.
1/4 cup Raw Pumpkin Seeds
1/4 cup Rose Water
1 tbs Clay
1 tbsp Honey
1 tsp Vitamin E or Rosehip Oil
Ground the pumpkin seeds in a coffee grinder.
Mix the ground seeds with a clay of your choice (I used Moroccan Red Clay) and the honey. DO NOT use a metal bowl or spoon as it will deactivate the clay!
Add the rose water slowly until the mixture is the consistency of your likening.
Apply with finger tips to face, being careful of the eye area.
Let dry and leave on for 20-20 minutes.
Wash off gently with warm water.
Keep any leftovers in the fridge and use within 2 weeks.
